Our Fruit

At Te Horo Foods we only use New Zealand fruit.  Our business would be more profitable if we used imported fruit, especially from China and South America.

But we want to be sure that our fruit is grown under safe and sustainable practices and that eliminates the cheap countries.

Visit our fruit map to see where our fruit comes from.

Our Recipes

We use traditional recipes with no additives.

Our recipes are generally based on an equal mix of high quality fruit and cane sugar.  With some varieties we need to add a little water. For example with marmalade we need to soak the peel to soften it before cooking.  Also our plums and apricots are so rich in natural pectins we need to add small quantities of water so the final jam is not too stiff.  These are traditional recipes that have been practiced and passed down through the ages by generations of home makers.

By using these wonderful old and proven recipes we don't need to add preservatives, stablisers or gelling agents.

Our Methods

You won't find any complex continuous process machinery at Te Horo Foods.  We use open jam pans over gas burners and stir the sugar in with wooden spoons.  Again, just like you would at home.  We just use a lot of these pans at the same time.

These are the reasons why our jam tastes just like your grandmothers.

Our Flavours

The Te Horo range consists of seven flavours.

  • Raspberry - New Zealand's favourite
  • Strawberry - Popular with the kids
  • Boysenberry - Tangy and distinctive
  • Blackberry - Our specialty
  • Apricot - Thick and chunky
  • Plum - Traditional and tangy
