Our Annual Blackberry Harvest is in Full Swing

 - Blackberries

It's that time of year again.  Harvest time!  And our annual blackberry harvest is in full swing.

We get all of our other fruit from throughout New Zealand but grow our own blackberries and that's probably why it's our favourite.

Blackberries are a fascinating crop in that the bunches of fruit are constantly ripening and our picking teams need to work back through each block about every three days as the berries ripen from the front, or "king" berries, back through the bunch.  That's the reason why we have to pick by hand and can't use mechanical pickers - because the crop is contantly ripening over about 10 weeks.

But don't fear for our pickers, the variety we grow is thornless!

Big, fat and juicy - but without the prickles.
